CitiDem

Empowering Citizens to Shape Democracy

To counter the disconnection between citizens and the High-level politicians, CitiDem aims to bridge the gap and strengthen participatory democracy. It is, now more than ever, needed to involve citizen in the legislative process, to incite them to engage, deliberate, and shape the future of Europe.

Through National Citizens Assemblies held across partner countries we aim to create spaces for open dialogue on key issues where diverse perspectives are heard and incorporated into policymaking.

  • Greece: “Democracy vs. Disinformation in the Digital Era: Addressing disinformation and enhancing citizen participation online”
  • Italy: “Climate crisis and Green New Deal”
  • Germany: “Democracy Unboxed: Bridging EU-German Democracy in a Comparative Analysis: democracy, democratic instruments and citizens’ participation”
  • France: “Diversity and inclusivity in democracy: we can do better!”
  • Portugal: “Public engagement on climate change and the green transition”
  • Slovenia: “Political participation of all for the Europe of equals”
  • Austria: “Labour, Migration & Climate Justice”
  • The Netherlands: “Green transition and circular economy”

Beyond the National Assemblies, two Transnational Citizens’ Assemblies will bring together participants from all partner countries to discuss overarching democratic challenges and share best practices. These discussions will culminate in a Recommendation Report, summarizing citizens' insights and proposals for democratic reforms.

By giving citizens a direct voice in democracy, CitiDem fosters a sense of ownership and empowerment, strengthening the democratic fabric of Europe. The project’s outcomes will serve as a valuable tool for policymakers, ensuring that citizen-driven recommendations influence legislative and institutional decisions at the national and EU levels.
